ClownCorps Pandemic Games

ClownCorps – The 2020 Pandemic Games
Global & Online – 2020
Hosted by ClownCorps and organized by Joan Howard, the 2020 Pandemic Games invited clowns and social circus artists from around the world to reimagine connection, joy, and collective silliness in the midst of a global lockdown. As co-founder of ClownCorps, I participated as both performer and collaborator in this wildly playful international event.
When the 2020 Olympic Games were canceled due to COVID-19, we launched our own absurd, delightful alternative. The Clown Distancing Committee (CDC) commissioned a new kind of global gathering — one that celebrated creativity, uplifted communities, and gave people everywhere a chance to play fully together in a time of distance.
Through virtual clown “sports” and ridiculous challenges, the Games united clowns, artists, and audiences from across the globe. Rather than competing to win, we played to connect — inviting joy, imagination, and humanity into the chaos of a pandemic year.
We were thrilled to collaborate with clown and social circus partners including:
- Clown Celula Roja (Chile & Ecuador)
- CaliClown (Colombia)
- Bolo & Claus (Spain)
- ClownCorps (USA)
- Ketut Cakra (Bali, Indonesia)
- The Red Peach Clown Team (Egypt)
- Tamba Africa Circus (Zimbabwe)
- Vabieka (Mexico)
- Sena Taskapilioglu (Turkey)
